Natural Resources Group - Providing Soil Fertility Programs
September 20, 2018
Tom Hrncirik founded the Natural Resources Group nearly 40 years ago with the intention of providing a suite of solutions for growers that focused on soil health. He introduced products that preserve nutrient availability, reduce leaching, build soil vitality, and enhance blooming and fruiting capabilities.
Today, NRG serves as a group of like-minded companies and individuals using advanced agronomy to understand the benefit of the soil – which they consider to be the most important natural resource available. And together, the companies share a common passion --- soil health and productivity.
Starting from the ground up, NRG analyzes the total soil system, integrating plant physiology, soil science, micro biology and agronomic technologies to begin the process of bringing the soil to its optimum natural state.
With an understanding and appreciation for the delicate life systems found in productive virgin soil --- and working directly with growers --- NRG begins the task of returning to the to the soil what intense production may have depleted. When nutrients are added to soils or sprayed directly onto plants, NRG formulas begin to balance soil life and boost plant health, with a goal of improving production capacity.
NRG works with organic and conventional growers alike, and their approach is to provide organic technologies that will move growers from straight chemical use to a more sustainable place. This often results in a huge reduction of commercial fertilizers and a potential pathway to transitioning to organic systems.
NRG’s General Manager, John Andreas said “We love to be in the organic space but there are a lot of folks that needs help on the conventional side. We have economically transitioned hundreds of growers into proven alternative fertility methods while protecting earth's greatest asset -- the soil.”

NRG’s biological foundation is utilized by input companies across the board. Andreas said, “There are quite an interesting group of companies focusing their energy on organic and sustainable products, that’s the kind of consortium that we have.”
NRG actually spends more time teaching and assisting growers than they do on sales. Andreas said, “It’s the nature of working with people because you can’t just give someone a product - there is no silver bullet. People need to understand what they’re doing and why they are doing within the living system. When it comes to soil – its biological complex nature is complex – truly understanding the living nature of soil is why we are successful.”
He added, "As an industry, we have spent years chasing deficiencies, diseases, pathogens, and recurring problems in the field. Seems there is never an end to the list of problems and the flare-ups.”
“The real discussion to have is the foundational nature of mycorrhizae and bacteria and soil food as it relates to improvements in root and soil health in all types of soils and climates. From here is where change will come.”
