Organic Produce Summit 2024 kicked off Wednesday with in-depth field tours of three prominent and influential Central Coast growers.
Braga Fresh Family Farms introduced attendees to Josie’s Organics. Rotating between learning stations, participants gained hands-on experience with everything from the brand’s organic baby leaf lettuce harvest and on-site bee population to its ag-tech equipment and regenerative carbon capturing efforts. Attendees ended the tour with a BBQ lunch in the Braga Barn.
Another group of summit attendees got a behind-the-scenes look at one of the nation’s largest berry growers, Driscoll’s. With a full line of organic berries, Driscoll’s provided a comprehensive look at the most popular organic commodity in the U.S. Driscoll’s welcomed OPS attendees inside its plant propagation, greenhouse and outdoor nursery facilities.
A third busload of attendees headed to Earthbound Farms, the nation’s largest farmer and producer of organic salads. The farm, which began in Carmel Valley in 1984, is now a modern-day leader in the organic food movement. This grower provided field tour attendees with an in-depth exploration of the farm and an intimate view of organic growing in the scenic and agriculturally significant Carmel Valley region.
