Sherry Frey, the vice president of total wellness at NielsenIQ, was the final keynote speaker at OPS on July 11 in Monterey, California, rounding out a morning of education sessions for the organic produce industry with a presentation parsing the buying habit trends and spending power of generational groups in the United States.

Frey, who has a background in organic produce and more than two decades of industry experience, discussed the ever-evolving consumer landscape and its demands on organic produce, as well as how the industry can identify new marketing opportunities. A few of the takeaways from this data-rich talk included a deep dive into the ever-increasing spend by Millennials and the emerging buying power of Gen Z. Frey also noted that Baby Boomers still wield a pretty hefty wallet and actually are the largest buyer of organic produce. They also rival Millennials in online purchases.
