1. Brooks and J&J Distributing Purchased, Merged
Minnesota-based produce companies H. Brooks and its affiliates and J&J Distributing are being acquired by New Harvest Foods. This transaction brings together the complementary strengths of both organizations to create a new and stronger healthy foods company called New Harvest Foods.
2. Charlie’s Produce Acquires Better Life Organics
Charlie’s Produce, an employee owned independent produce company serving the west coast since 1978, has acquired Better Life Organics, a Los Angeles based distributor of organic produce and food products. With an established twenty-four year history serving the Los Angeles area, BLO will merge with Charlie’s Produce and as a result, immediately expand its services and product offerings.
3. Amazon Helps Lift Traffic at Whole Foods
Amazon Prime is bringing more shoppers into Whole Foods Market stores, but traffic metrics from digital marketing firm inMarket show the retailers are still working out the omnichannel equation. For the 2019 first quarter, foot traffic at Whole Foods climbed 16.5% from a year earlier, according to the Spring 2019 inMarket Insights Report Card on the specialty grocer.

Back in 2012, The FruitGuys, a South San Francisco-based company that delivers fresh, organically and locally produced fruit to offices large and small, started its own nonprofit. Called The FruitGuys Community Fund, the goal was to provide grants to small far sustainability projects. It recently announced 15 winners of its 2019 program, awarding a total of $53,480.
